Introduction

Our Introduction to Lime course is ideal for anyone who is looking to get involved with lime and its applications. This one-day course is aimed at contractors, specifiers and homeowners looking to get hands on experience and an understanding of working with lime.

Taught by members of our experienced team the day is suitable for all abilities and covers all aspects of working with lime mortars and plasters as well as the history of this traditional building material.

History of lime use
The lime cycle, types of lime and their uses
Making lime mortars, sands and binders (include slaking/hot lime)
Why use lime? Repair or renew
(Practical) 2 hrs
Mixing mortars, recognising correct consistency
Pointing techniques using lime mortar
Lime rendering onto solid walls
(LUNCH) ½ hr
(Practical) 2½hrs
Lime rendering on lath
Lime Plastering
Lime plastering onto wood wool boards and insulation boards
Discussion/ Q&A ½ hr
